SERDANG, November 2023 - The Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) received the visit of Professor Dr. Saman K. Halgamuge, a Honorary Visiting Professor from the University of Melbourne. He has been appointed as an Honorary Visiting Professor for the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology by UPM.

He visited UPM on 8 to 9 November 2023 in which the Department of Computer Science had planned several activities that were successfully implemented throughout the Professor's presence at UPM.

Prof. Dr. Saman delivered a special lecture entitled "Combining Two Different Directions of AI and Applications in Medicine and Sustainable Energy" which was held at Dewan Abdul Azim and could be followed directly through FSKTM's Facebook Live social media platform.

FSKTM benefited from his visit to the Department of Computer Science by him sharing useful thoughts on improving the relevance of the faculty’s Master by Coursework (MSKK) and Bachelor in Computer Science programs.

Also, the Professor shared his thoughts regarding university rankings and held discussions with department members on research publications, supervision, sabbaticals and so on.

The Professor also held a discussion with research students who briefly presented their research work to get his comments and opinions.

During his time at UPM, he attended meetings with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic and International Affairs (TNCAA), FSKTM management and an introduction session with members of the Computer Science Department.

This visit has improved academic and professional ties between members of the Department of Computer Science and Professor Dr. Saman, and has seeded future academic and career opportunities.
