PROGRAMME BY RESEARCH

DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)

The Doctor of Philosophy programme provides students with specialisation education in the various fields of computer science. This is achieved through a completion of academic coursework in the major fields with an independent research project. A student pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy programme may complete the programme after a minimum period of two years and a maximum period of five years.

MASTER OF SCIENCE

The Master of Science programme provides students with specialisation education in the various fields of computer science. This is achieved through a completion of academic course work in the major fields with an independent research project. A student pursuing a Master of Science programme may complete the programme after a minimum period of one year and a maximum period of three years.

1) MASTER OF COMPUTER SCIENCE 

The Master of Computer Science programme aims to produce graduates in the field of computer science, whom are knowledgeable, creative, innovative and competitive, as needed by the nation especially to increase expertise in the ICT industry in general.

Programme Objectives (PO)

 The objectives of the programme are to:

1. produce professionals with advanced knowledge, highly skilled, versatile and equipped with competitive advantage in the field of computer science as a catalyst to research, development and innovation to fulfil the current prospects;
2. produce professional human capital whom are sensitive to the ever changing demands of computer science environment as well as skilled in solving problems creatively, innovatively and ethically;
3. build professional cooperative networks with local and global organisations and communities in dealing with issues and problems in computer science.

Learning Outcomes (LO)

At the end of the programme, graduates should be able to:

1. Apply and integrate knowledge on current research issues in computing and produce tasks that precedes the development of the program study domain;
2. Evaluate and analyse computing solutions in terms of their usability, efficiency and effectiveness;
3. Develop computing solutions and use appropriate tools to analyse their performance;
4. Apply existing research techniques and queries to acquire, translate and expand knowledge in computing;
5. Communicate and play a proactive role in a group;
6. Prepare, publish and present technical materials to diverse audience; and
7. Demonstrate consistent behaviour with professional ethical code and responsibility.

2) MASTER OF INFORMATION SECURITY

The Master of Information Security is a 40 credits postgraduate programme by course work at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). It offers an opportunity for advanced studies and career development in the field of information security.

3) MASTER OF SOFTWARE ENGINEERING

The Master of Software Engineering programme is a 40 credits postgraduate programme by coursework. It offers an opportunity for advanced studies and career development in the field of software engineering. The objectives of this programme are to provide competent software engineers to fulfill the needs of the software industry; to offer the opportunity to further studies as well as career advancement in software engineering; and to produce professional software engineers who have the communication and ethical skills.
