SERDANG - A senior Lecturer of Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Dr. Thinagaran s/o Perumal was awarded the ‘Venus International Faculty Awards (VIFA) 2017’ in Chennai recently.

This annual award is a collaboration between VIFA and Centre for Advanced Research and Design (CARD), India to acknowledge academicians at the early stage of their career.

Dr. Thinagaran won the ‘Outstanding Faculty Award’ at the ‘3^rd Contemporary Academic Meet-CAM 2017’ annual conference held on 8 July 2017.

He received a certificate, medal and memento from Prof. Dr Deborah Andrews of London South Bank University. Also present at the ceremony were Prof. Sekhar from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and Venus International Faculty Chairman, Dr. R. Sathishkumar.

Dr. Thinagaran said he was overwhelmed but at time same time happy and grateful as this award means UPM is also been recognised internationally. 

“This award motivates me to keep moving forward and help me strengthen my research,” he said in an interview here.

He thanked the management of UPM, the faculty and the head of department and expressed his hope to continue supporting UPM’s vision and mission to further elevate UPM’s status as a world’s prestigious university. - UPM
