SERDANG, 17 October 2019 – Team FSKTM has won third place in the Best Practices in Teaching and Learning Innovation Between Faculties/Education Centres Competition 2019. The competition, part of the Putra InnoCreative Carnival in Teaching and Learning organised by the Centre of Academic Development (CADe), UPM had participation from 12 PTJs, and was held to recognise teaching excellence at the individual/institutional level, spread and share best practices in teaching and learning (T&L) innovation in each faculty for the benefit of other UPM academics, and identify UPM academics that have potential to be candidates for the Vice Chancellor Fellowship Award (AFNC) /  National Academic Award (AAN) in the teaching category based on each faculty’s niche.

For FSKTM, this is the first time that it has entered this competition. Led by Dr. Noris Mohd Norowi and eight other faculty members (Associate Prof. Dr. Nurfadhlina Mohd Sharef, Associate Prof. Madya Dr. Masnida Hussin, Dr. Hizmawati Madzin, Dr. Nurul Amelina Nasharuddin, Dr. Mas Rina Mustaffa, Dr. Nor Azura Husin, Dr. Aziah Asmawi, and Dr. Azrina Kamaruddin), FSKTM put forward ‘EXCEL IT! – Experiential and Community Engagement in Learning Information Technology’, a model of teaching and learning that has as its core a 3-way symbiotic relationship between academia, industry and community. The positive impact from EXCEL IT! is the opportunity to prepare future graduates with work experience through collaboration with industry and aspire them to contribute back to nation development through collaboration with community.

The model was presented in front of juries on Monday 14 October 2019 at the Experimental Theatre, UPM. The prize was a check for RM2000.00 and certificates, and was presented by Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Saripan, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) during the PICTL carnival closing ceremony. Congratulations to all FSKTM members, and good luck going forward!
