UPM Grabs Top Spot at TDC2017

Test Design Competition (TDC) was introduced in 2014 with the aims of to promote creative and innovative systematic/software engineering-based approaches and techniques in software testing. It is also intended to increase visibility of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) and testing practices in Malaysia as they help businesses to mitigate risks, and as a consequence, promote software tester as a strategic and rewarding career. Via the competition, Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB) aims to give recognition to testing skills excellence of software test professionals and discover new talents from among the students.

This year, TDC 2017 is the 4th edition of the annual competition which, for a given Test Object in a (hypothetical) Real-world Test Environment, requires participants to respond to a ‘hybrid’ challenge which are advanced assignment, 'Over-the-weekend’ test challenge and presentation.  Held in conjunction with SOFTEC Asia 2017, TDC 2017 offers cash prizes of RM 5,000 to the winner of University category.

Most importantly, the competition provides an effective platform for the students and the supervising lecturers to put their testing knowledge into practice, gain exposure to the industry problems and experience a work-like environment and gauge their competency levels against teams from other universities.

In TDC 2017, there were 20 groups from various universities in Malaysia were competing. The competition was held in University Tenaga National, UNITEN on 15th – 16th July 2017. The announcement of winner was made on Day 1 of SOFTEC Asia 2017 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on 1st August 2017.

Putra-Tester was announced as winner of the University Category. Putra-Tester from Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University Putra Malaysia was headed by Dr. Mohd Hafeez Osman as the supervising lecturer and Dr. Salmi Baharom as students’ mentor. Students’ members of Putra-Tester are Mu’az Toshihiko Bin Mansor, Syazani Bin Hussin, Wan Norizzati Binti Wan Hasan and Nur Farahshazwani Binti Nor Azmi.
