SERDANG, Ogos - Through the CEO@Faculty 2.0 program of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education Malaysia, several visits and official discussions between the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FSKTM) and the Centre of Industry Relations and Networks (CiRNeT) with PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd (PKT) were held to seeking the strategic cooperation between the two parties.

On  August 27, 2020, the Deputy Director of CirNet together with the Deputy Dean (Development, Industry and Community Relations), FSKTM made another follow-up visit to the PKT headquarters. In the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PKT, Dato' Seri Dr. Michael Tio introduced a subsidiary, Sparke Autoparts (M) Sdn Bhd (SPARKE) led by Mr. Kuan Eu Jin and agreed to award the SPARKE e-commerce platform development project to UPM which will be led by UPM CEO fellow, Associate Profesor Ts. Dr. Koh Tieng Wei. In order to implement this development project, a formal NDA was addressed by UPM VC and SPARKE CEO in early 2021. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UPM and SPARKE was also approved by the University Management Committee (JPU) Meeting on October 15, 2020.

As a result of this collaboration, the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology has received Adjunct Professor, Mr. Kuan Eu Jin for 12 months starting August 2, 2021. The benefits to the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology are able to increase UPM's visibility as a multi-disciplinary and research university in the field of e-commerce and gig economics. In addition, the appointment of Adjunct Professors will open opportunities for UPM students and lecturers to develop knowledge and skills with SPARKE.
