Department of Multimedia

Introduction

The Multimedia Department is established to provide extensive and varied undergraduate and postgraduate courses that develop skills in multimedia computing and also to provide in-depth knowledge relevant to current multimedia technologies. All courses offered are designed to give the students insight into the secrets of multimedia technology and the skills that will enable the students to develop new and creative ways of using multimedia as this will aimed to provide a direct route to first class multimedia computing institution.


Objectives

Multimedia Department is established for:

  1. Provide and offer high-demand Multimedia courses in order to accomplish the goals of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) in the era of information technology.
  2. Be a centre of excellence for learning and research within the Multimedia Technology community and in the area of Multimedia application development as well as multimedia computing.
  3. Give skills, methods and techniques required in designing and realizing multimedia systems.
  4. Produce highly knowledgeable graduate in theory and practical aspect in the Multimedia Computing field to fulfill the nation’s aspiration as well as versatile and competitive in the global level.
  5. Produce computer professional that have good communication skill, well-mannered and high ethical.
  6. Provide graduate with knowledge and research skill for innovation purposes and advanced studies.

 
Academic Programme

The department offers the Bachelor of Computer Science (Multimedia) and Master of Computer Science (Multimedia System), Master of Science and PhD programmes. The programmes were created to meet the growing professional and technical demands of the multimedia industry. The courses offered were specialise in software systems for multimedia production, combination of  multimedia with internet software applications, practical skills with audio and video production technology as well as computer animation.

 
Bachelor of Computer Science (Multimedia)

The degree programme focuses on multimedia fundamental and computer science concepts, electronic information industry, hypertext and hypermedia concepts, multimedia application in education and training, multimedia application in business and professional fields, multimedia application in games and entertainment, multimedia information retrieval, audio digitizing, and etc. In addition, students will also learn the principles of multimedia design and development life cycle. Students will be exposed to the latest technology and systems by the field trip and during their industrial training to industry. Students also will acquire sufficient knowledge in the field of Multimedia Computing; reaching the level of professionalism, values, attitudes and ethical behavior; achieve social accountability; mastering Multimedia Computing technical skills; mastering communication skills and team works; mastering information management efficiency and ability to lifelong learning; reached critical thinking ability; achieve managerial and entrepreneurial skills; and achieve the leadership values.


Curriculum Structure

The program components consist of university courses, core modules, specialization, specialization electives and free modules. The university courses consist of 21 credits, the core modules consist of 54 credits, the specialization consist of 24 credits,   the specialization electives consist of 12 credits and the free modules consist of 12 credits. Total credits to graduate are 123 credits not include 2 credit co-curriculum courses.

  • Students are required to choose at least 12 credits of any courses including one language course besides Malay/English language with the permission of the Head of Department.
